Recreation
The recreation department is committed to the holistic health care of the clients. The care encompasses the whole person mentally, physically, socially, and spiritually. The recreation team organizes events to suit many interests and needs. Socialization is encouraged and promoted.
Programs are posted on a large calendar located in the main lounge. There is also a copy posted on the website under the "current news" tab. Clients may receive an individual copy of monthly schedules if requested.
Interdenominational church services are held weekly, the name of the minister conducting the service is included in the monthly calendar. A communion service is held monthly, and a devotional morning is held weekly.
Volunteers play a major role in enhancing the quality of life on our campus. Volunteers assist with such programs as personal errands, music, walks, 1-1 visits.
A licensed hairdresser is available 5 days a week and a licensed barber visits one morning a month. Prices are posted in the shop. Appointments can be made directly with them at 275-5631 ext 243.
During the summer months, there are many areas to explore and enjoy. The gazebo is located by the main entrance and is wheelchair accessible. The grounds host many lovely gardens for your pleasure.
The South Shore Regional book mobile visits once a month. Large print books and talking books are available and special orders are taken upon request. There is a video magnifier available for residents with visual impairments in the nursing home.
The main lounge has a large screen TV for the viewing pleasure.
The wheelchair accessible bus seats 12 passengers and 4 tie down wheel chairs. The bus goes on such outings as shopping, scenic drives, meals out, picnics, and special events.
Regular programs are planned such as: bingo, church, devotions, hymn sings, manicures, wax treatment, exercises, walks and sensory programs such as visits to the Snoezelen room. Pet therapy is popular is very popular in our facility. Our facility has one in house cat, four budgie birds, two aquariums and many visits are enjoyed from St John's ambulance dogs and their handlers.
Social programs include such activities as pub night, visits from local entertainers, theme parties, community news, craft groups, and birthday celebrations.
The occupational therapy room can be booked through the recreation department. It can be used for such activities such family gatherings for resident birthdays, anniversaries and meal sharing. This room is equipped with a full kitchen.
